Fishing trips out of Hurghada work the sandy banks and reef edges an hour or so offshore. It is hand-line and rod fishing rather than anything technical, and the crew bait, unhook and generally do the difficult parts.
The usual catch is grouper, snapper, emperor and bream, with barracuda and small trevally when the boat trolls between spots. Nothing enormous — this is not blue-water game fishing — but a reliable few kilos across a boat over a morning.

Two notes. Fishing is banned inside the marine park zones around Giftun, so boats work outside them — if someone offers to fish over a protected reef, that is poaching. And take a hat and long sleeves: a fishing boat sits still in full sun with no shade for hours at a time.
